Welcome to Gibson Building Company’s website.  Incorporated and in business since 1989, GBC has been providing expert, educated management of all phases of custom residential building, from beginning to end (see “A Project’s Progress”).

We have worked with some of the more notable architects in the southern New England area, building heirloom quality homes with the best construction techniques and materials.  These are often located in the extremes of rugged coastal environments with challenging sites.

Cyrus Gibson, President and CEO of GBC, has been in the business since graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1975.  His first company, Newport Housewrights, specialized in historic renovations and timber framing.  In 1982, Cy joined Sakonnet Group as project estimator, and later project manager.  This company specialized in passive solar, super-insulated timber frame homes primarily on Aquidneck Island, RI.  Later they moved towards more mainstream houses but still incorporated green concerns.

Today, Gibson Building Company utilizes environmentally sensitive practices such as recycled wood flooring, Icynene insulation, high-efficiency heating systems, rainwater capture cisterns (where possible) and low-flow plumbing fixtures in many of its projects.
